With the GiiKs Game City (GGC) Rep a Country E-soccer World Cup only a few days away, Ghanaian esports organisations Canvic Records and Tema Esports squared off in a friendly match yesterday, October 20, to prepare for the tournament.
The friendly was held on the Esports Africa Tournament (EAT) platform, which offers gamers a variety of quality tournament opportunities, including play-to-earn and play-to-learn events, as well as regular tournaments including locally developed video games.
Both teams faced off in the friendly match using the countries they were assigned at the event’s official launch, with Canvic Records using Brazil and Tema Esports using Portugal. In order to level the playing field, all players in-game were rated at 95 overall during the friendly.
Because the 2022 Rep a Country E-soccer World Cup is a 2v2 competition, Canvic Records and Tema Esports competed in a 2v2 contest, with Canvic Records lining up with gamers Endless and Osborn and Tema Esports lining up with Medicine and Badboy.
Both sides were evenly matched in the first encounter of the first to three-game friendly, but a 61st-minute goal by Canvic Records would lead the team to win. The Tema Esports team improved in the second match, controlling the game in the first half, and grabbing the lead in the 18th minute to draw up the friendly, but Canvic Records completed a comeback in the space of eight minutes, scoring in the 80th and 88th minutes to win the game 2-1.
With the aggregate score at 3-1 after two games, Tema Esports needed an excellent showing in the third and final game of the friendly contest to complete the comeback, but it was not to be as the squad would fall to another setback as the Canvic Records team edged out a 1-0 victory in the third match to extend the aggregate scoreline to 4-1.
