Whereas Esports was once considered niche, in the last few years after the COVID period, has exploded in popularity, captivating millions of gamers and enthusiasts across the continent. On a similar scale, African game developers and animators are curating content, incorporating rich African narrative narratives, captivating visuals, and immersive experiences that rival international standards.
These exploding and captivating storis can be seen from Cairo to Cape Town, Senegal to Nairobi, a mix of world class and local creative hubs are flourishing, propelled by the passion and ingenuity of African talent. A number of annual initiatives on the African calendar including the Africa Games Week, GAMRX, Sahel Games, Accra Games Week , Morocco Games Expo and the Africa Games Developers Conference have amplified networking opportunities, fostered collaboration, and showcased Africa’s potential to the global gaming and animation industries.
