News reaching Esports Africa News from sources close to the organisers of the proposed much anticipated Esports Olympics originally planned to be held in Saudi Arabia in 2025 have been delayed until further notice.
The organisers have not given any future dates or period for the event however there is interest in running the Esports Olympics. It is understandable that there are complications relating to genres of esports, IP and rights from third party organisations who are not traditionally aligned with the IOC policies and national sports organisations.
Experts in the industry also see this as an opportunity for regional blocks to come up with their own version of Regional Esports Championships. A question for the African region will be the choice of genres to be included in the tournaments as there are no local servers in the region. This may also be the opportunity for indie Game Developers from the continent or connected to the continent to promote their games into Esports.
Esports Africa Tournament and many other local tournament organisers are encouraged to form a consortium of tournament organisers, at least one from each country from Africa to organise the continents regional tournament.
Esports Africa News will support such an initiative to grow talent, develop opportunities and provide socio-economical benefit through esports for Africa.
