Kenya & SA qualify for the 2022 CEC

Kenya and South Africa’s (SA) Rocket League teams booked their place at the 2022 Commonwealth Esports Championship (CEC) to be held in Birmingham, England from August 6-7.

The two countries secured their spots through the Africa Regional Finals – where the top 2 teams advance to the 2022 CEC – taking on Ghana and Malawi on June 18 in a completely online competition.

The South African team of Umer “Arceon” Majiet, Schalk “SchalkG” Geldenhuys and Umar “Werty ^^” Rasool went undefeated throughout the Regional Finals defeating Ghana (3-0), Malawi (3-0) and Kenya (3-0) to secure the top spot.

Kenya placed second and earned a spot at the maiden edition of the CEC by defeating Ghana (3-0), and Malawi (3-1) before falling to defeat against South Africa (3-0).

Congratulations to Team Kenya for making it to the top 2 in Africa and moving forward to represent Kenya in the international arena in Birmingham.

The 2022 Commonwealth Esports Championship (CEC) is a collaboration between the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and the Global Esports Federation (GEF) which will see the CEC held alongside the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The maiden edition of the championship which is set to kick off from August 6-7 at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham will see gamers from across the Commonwealth compete in Dota 2, eFootball and Rocket League.
