Nigeria’s esports scene is set for a major milestone with the launch of the National Player Selection 2026, a structured pathway designed to identify and elevate the country’s top talents in eFootball. Organized in collaboration with the Esports Federation of Nigeria, this initiative aims to assemble a formidable national squad for the prestigious FIFAe Nations League.
With the slogan “Nigeria’s Best… It’s Time to Represent,” the competition underscores a growing commitment to professionalizing esports within the country while providing players with a clear route to international representation.
A STRUCTURED PATHWAY TO EXCELLENCE

The selection process is divided into two major tournaments, each designed to test consistency, adaptability, and high-level gameplay. Tournament 1 kicks off with round-robin stages scheduled for April 18–19 and April 25–26, culminating in finals on May 2–3. This phase sets the tone, offering early contenders the opportunity to establish dominance.
Tournament 2 expands the competition with multiple round-robin windows, May 16–17, May 23–24, May 30–31, and June 6–7, before concluding with finals on June 13–14. The extended format ensures that only the most consistent and resilient players remain in contention. This multi-stage structure reflects global esports standards, where performance over time, not just isolated victories, determines true champions.
POINTS SYSTEM: REWARDING CONSISTENCY AND PERFORMANCE
To maintain competitive integrity, the tournament adopts a transparent points system:
Winner: 120 points
Runner-up: 105 points
Group Winner: 80 points
This scoring model emphasizes both peak performance and steady progress, encouraging players to remain competitive across all stages rather than relying on single standout performances.
NOMINATION MILESTONES
A key feature of the selection process is its phased nomination system, which recognizes top-performing players at critical intervals:
1st Nomination: April 7
2nd Nomination: May 5
3rd Nomination: June 23
These checkpoints ensure that emerging talents are consistently evaluated, keeping the competition dynamic and merit-driven.
ELEVATING NIGERIA’S ESPORTS ECOSYSTEM
The National Player Selection 2026 is more than just a tournament, it is a strategic investment in Nigeria’s esports future. By aligning with global competitions like the FIFAe Nations League, the initiative provides local players with exposure to international standards and opportunities. The involvement of the Esports Federation of Nigeria further highlights the increasing institutional support for esports, signaling a shift toward formal recognition and development of the industry.
As the competition unfolds, Nigeria stands at the threshold of a new era in esports. The National Player Selection 2026 not only identifies the country’s best eFootball players but also builds a foundation for sustained growth and global competitiveness. For aspiring professionals and passionate fans alike, this is a defining moment, one that could shape Nigeria’s presence on the international esports stage for years to come.
