The Apex Legends team, Phat Legends, were crowned champions at the first edition of the Apex Legends: Royal Showdown tournament held on Saturday, July 9 at both the Arena 233 Esports Centre in Accra, Ghana and online.

Phat Legends completely dominated their opponents during the competition, winning three games in a row as well as having the highest number of kills in each game on their way to making history.

Second place went to McDude Fanclub which also impressed during the competition but the team was completely overshadowed by Phat Legends’ performance.

The Royal Showdown came to be through a partnership between US-based esports organisation, Melanin Gamers and Arena 233. The maiden event was also Melanin Gamers’ first-ever crack at holding an IRL and online event.

The competition, which was supported by Domino’s Pizza, brought together some of the country’s best Apex Legends gamers as they did battle for the prizes provided by video game giants Electronic Arts (EA).
