Hakim Touré, an Ivorian esports athlete known as Skywalker, will represent the African continent in the 2022 Tekken World Tour (TWT) Global Finals, which will be held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on February 4-5, 2023.
The third and fourth editions of the Festival de l’Electronique et du Jeu video d’Abidjan (FEJA) Tekken King earned a spot in the Global Finals on November 5 during the 2022 TWT West Africa Regional Finals, defeating fellow countrymen Shaoling and K-Bosfort, as well as Togolese esports athlete Dark Angel, to win the $3,000 first-place prize.
Skywalker’s path to the TWT Global Finals started with a match against Shaoling. The Ivorian would select the character Marshall Law to compete against his opponent’s Master Raven, winning the first bout 2-3 before losing the second 3-2. Skywalker’s path would be clear from there, as Shaoling failed to find an answer, losing the third and fourth fights 3-1 and 3-2, respectively.
The Ivorian would advance to the West Africa Regional Grand Finals, while Shaoling would meet Togolese Dark Angel in the Losers Finals. Many would have expected a rematch between Shaoling and Skywalker after the former won the first two bouts in the Losers Finals 3-1 and 3-0.
However, a powerful comeback by Dark Angel, who was using Yoshimitsu for the bout, would see the Togolese secure the Grand Final position, defeating Shaoling 3-0, 3-2, and 3-0, respectively, in the third, fourth, and fifth bouts.
With the TWT West Africa Regional Finals Grand Finals set, it was time to choose the region’s representative for the Global Finals. Skywalker chose Marshall Law for the fight, while Dark Angel kept Yoshimitsu. The first bout was won by the Ivorian, who thrashed his Togolese opponent 3-0; Dark Angel evened the score in the second bout, defeating Skywalker 3-1.
Skywalker proved too strong for his opponent, winning the next two bouts 3-0 and 3-1 to claim the first-place prize of $3,000 and the region’s spot at the 2022 Tekken World Tour (TWT) Global Finals, which will be held on February 4-5, 2023 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Skywalker will be joined by Tunisian Ayadi “Unknown.EXE” Yassine, who won the 2022 TWT North Africa Regional Finals, as two of the three potential African representatives in the TWT Global Finals have been selected.
