I am so excited about how far I’ve come in my game dev journey. Last month was when I decided to release my first mobile game, Virago: Naked Reality.
I was scared of releasing it because I felt it wouldn’t get much sales, but to my surprise it landed on the top 10 list of US and UK stores on the AppStore and Playstore, selling more than 1000+ copies.
Then I decided to release my second free game called Virago: Herstory, which was going to be my first free game on mobile, and I was shocked when I saw the reception from fans. Within a week of its release, my game already had over 5000 downloads.
I didn’t rest and said I was going to release my first hyper casual game within that same month, and just during the announcement phase, I got over 1,200 pre-registrations in just a day for my latest mobile game, Virago Runner.
One of the main reasons I was scared when releasing my game was funding. I reached out to many people and investors to see if they could support me with funding for my game, but I wasn’t able to get any.
I realized how hard it was for African studios and startups to get funding, especially for the game development sector, so when I saw there was no hope for funding anymore, I decided to produce content on my TikTok account since I had experience in social media content creation.
This worked out great for me as I gathered over 300k amazing followers on my TikTok account. They supported me in every way possible and I can’t thank them enough for it. I owe it all to them for motivating me constantly and giving me the boost until I was able to complete the game.
I am sharing this because I am proud of what I’ve been able to achieve in my game development journey. I wouldn’t have been able to reach this point if it weren’t for my amazing TikTok fans who constantly support my every move.
I hope all the game developers who are currently working on a title don’t stop and continue until it’s released, because it’s one of the best feelings to see people admire your hard work.
More games are to come in the future from Honest Chronicle Studios.
