Spurred on by the groundbreaking report into the South African games industry launched earlier this year, Tshimologong continues its vigorous support of the local industry by launching its first gaming hub.
Four years after the creation at Tshimologong of the Digital Content Hub – DCH – and alongside the Animation Academy (created with GOBELINS, l’école de l’image) the Digital Lab Africa and Fakugezi program and Festival gaming talents and studios now have their dedicated space in the hub.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐮𝐛 𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐨:
– Support the emergence of high-potential video game development start-ups while enabling meaningful participation of black people in the video game industry
– Provide a pipeline for the commercialisation of African gaming IP.
With this in mind, the organization are also hoping to be a true player in fast-tracking the inclusive growth of the South African video game ecosystem globally and increase the volume of video games developed in Africa while creating employment and providing market access to business growth and investment opportunities through global partnerships.
The DCH was created thanks to a partnership with AFD – Agence Française de Développement, the Embassy of France in South Africa and key French Creative Industry Players.
Telkom, the University of the Witwatersrand and the French Institute of South Africa have also added their support to make the Gaming Hub possible.
In addition to the above Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct revealed that some local developers will benefit from a newly established mentorship program.
We are really excited to see what our 2021 Telkom Hackathon winners Atrybute, Southgame Studio, and Skinnyboy Gaming incubatees will produce under mentorship for the next 9 months.
