Libyan esports organisation, Virtual Gaming Squad (VGS), wrapped up their 2022 PUBG Mobile World Invitational in style, picking up the first Chicken Dinner on the final day of the competition.
The Invitational, which was organised by KRAFTON and Tencent Games in collaboration with Gamers8 and ESL, was held at Riyadh Boulevard in Saudi Arabia from August 11–13. The competition brought together 18 PUBG Mobile Pro League champions across all regions to battle for the $2,000,000 prize pool.
VGS made it to the 2022 PUBG Mobile World Invitational after finishing top of the PUBG Mobile Pro League – Africa beating out Algerian team INTRUDER and SLIME 4KT from Nigeria who finished second and third respectively.
The Libyan team made up of Abdulkarim “ROMANA” Saeid, Musab “1SHoTT” Altaib, Munir “AlFalluji” Mohammed, Ahmed “ZEUS” Alkhatroshi, Mohammed “GADAFi” Mansour, Mohammed “YaFoZ” Layth Ibrahim and coach Howari “FALCON” Meddah kicked off the competition with an 8th place finish with a single kill.
The North Africans would grow as the competition bore on, picking up their first Chicken Dinner during Round 13 of the event as well as a second-place finish in Round 15, but it was too late as the team would ultimately finish in 15th place with a total of 96 points, just ahead of the likes of China’s TJB Esports EU, Mexican side Aton Esports, and 52 Esports of Pakistan.
“We dedicate the first Chicken Diner on the third day for all the Libyan people in particular and Africa in general.” a statement by VGS read “We are proud of representing on behalf of our country at this unique global event.”
The team also thanked everybody that supported them during the competition stating “We, the Virtual Gaming Squad, thank everyone who supported us in watching the championship, commenting for us, and rejoicing with our joy.”
VGS didn’t go home empty-handed as the team’s 15th place finish saw the North Africans go home with $47,500 of the $2,000,000 prize pool.
