Xhosa joins Akron Zips Esports

South African esports athlete Rowan “Xhosa” Steyn has joined the Rainbow 6 Siege team at the University of Akron Esports programme.

This was announced by Akron Zips Esports’ official Twitter handle, revealing that the South African will be continuing his education in Psychology as well as his esports career at the university.

“We are excited to welcome Rowan “Xhosa” Steyn to our Rainbow 6 Siege team! All the way from South Africa, Rowan is coming to Akron to continue his education and competitive career!”

From Pretoria, South Africa, Xhosa will join an impressive Akron Zips Esports team that missed out on the 2022 Rainbow 6 Collegiate Championship crown, finishing in second place after a narrow Grand Final defeat to Converse University.

Akron Zips Esports will be hoping that the addition of the South African to the team is just the spark needed to push the team to take back the Rainbow 6 Collegiate Championship title they won back in 2021.

Xhosa was one of the seven gamers let go by the South African esports organisation VYBN Esports back in May, with his former team wishing him luck in his new journey “Good luck with your new journey! Xhosa Make us all proud.”
