NamLAN – LAN of the Brave is an annual event founded in 2008 by Louis van der Merwe and Jonel van Schalkwyk. It was a general opportunity for those interested in gaming to gather in a physical location, meet others with similar interests, and compete for prizes either individually or in teams.

Jonel and Louis founded the Namibian Electronic Sports Association (NESA) in 2009, along with Kai Eysselein and Brendan Ihmig, and it was officially recognised by the Namibia Sports Commission in 2010. Every year since then, NESA has been in charge of hosting NamLAN.

NamLAN had been hosted online for the previous two years, so it lacked the crucial social element that had made it popular in prior years. People would come from all over Namibia to congregate and play together before it became indistinguishable from how you would normally play these games.

NamLAN organisers are working hard this year to make a remarkable return to embrace that social aspect. “We’re dedicating more days and considerably more funds to it and trying to make it accessible to as many people as possible,” the event’s organisers said in a statement.

The event which is supported by Nanodog.net, Logitech, Switch Energy Drink, and Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) will see gamers compete in eight (8) titles including eFootball 2022, Call of Duty: Mobile (CODM), Dota 2, Apex Legends, Tekken 7, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and Assetto Corsa.
