Indonesian esports team BOOM Esports claimed victory in the final of the Gamers Galaxy‘s Dota 2 Invitational Series defeating Tundra Esports 3-2 in the grand final of the competition.

In what was an incredibly close final which saw BOOM not only take home the grand prize of around $109,000 but also establish themselves as one of the top teams going forward. BOOM would trade victories with Tundra game after game till the Indonesian team clinched the final fifth game to end Tundra’s hopes.

GamesPad who sponsors the Indonesian side commented on BOOM Esports victory on the official Twitter sharing their excitement in regards to the team’s success “We’re excited to share that BOOM Esports, the esports team GamesPad is sponsoring, has become the CHAMPION of the Gamers Galaxy: Dota 2 Invitational Series Dubai 2022.”

BOOM was not a top contender for the invitational despite the team dominating the South East Asia (SEA) Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) tournament, many assumed the region would not be able to compete with some of the top European teams in the event.

However, BOOM would shatter that assumption by going undefeated in a stacked Group B claiming victories over the likes of Team Secret and The International (TI) champions Team Spirit, with the only team defeating the Indonesian side being their grand final opposition Tundra during the first round of the upper bracket.

“We came here with no expectations. Against the best teams, we wanted to learn. Smooth start with some obstacles. In the end, we were able to win it all. Thank you for making us proud!” The official BOOM Esports Twitter wrote after the side’s victory

Elsewhere, TI champions Team Spirit could only manage a fourth-place finish, while North American DPC Regional Finals champions Team SoloMid (TSM) could only finish in the top eight, which will surely be a significant disappointment for both teams.
