EAG President calls for Servers in Africa
President of the Esports Association, Ghana (EAG), Kwesi Hayford, has called for support for a petition he started to draw the attention of decision-makers and stakeholders to the need for more servers in Africa.
In a statement on his official LinkedIn account, Hayford spoke about how a lack of servers on the continent affects esports teams.
“Two esports teams from Ghana, Ruutz Esports and Virtual Union were in the FIFAe Club Global Series. After qualifications to the next stage were paired with teams from [the] Middle East.”
“These two African teams had good players, good internet, PlayStation 5, playing on the day but guess what? The server the organizers chose for the matches to be played on [that day] was on a server in Dubai.”
“Our opponents were playing on a server much closer to their home country and guess what? They won all their matches.” The EAG President further stated
“Then came the discussion. Do we have to fly our players to Dubai to play their international matches just because of [the] availability of a server there?”
Hayford then called on the public to sign the petition stating his hope that the continent will be given the needed attention.
“We only hope that Africa will be given the needed attention that comes within the digital space utilizing the technologies that enable us all to play uniquely on [an] equal level and a global ecosystem that promotes wealth for all.”
“So go sign the petition for servers in Africa, I appreciate you. Cheers”
Currently, 2,069 people have signed Hayford’s petition for more servers on the continent and if you are interested in supporting the dream you can sign the petition here.
