Efest Africa 2024: A First Edition Celebrating Gaming in Senegal

Dakar came alive with the first edition of Efest Africa, a ground-breaking event dedicated to gaming and geek culture. Organized by the SENGAMES association at the Théodore Monod Museum from the 28-29 December, the festival gathered enthusiasts of all ages, highlighting Senegal’s growing prominence in the world of technology and digital entertainment.

In just two days, Efest Africa attracted over 1,500 participants, drawn by a diverse program. High-level panels tackled key topics such as education, video game industry training, African game creation, and esports opportunities for Africa in the Olympic Games. Seven exhibitions showcased local talent, including Game Hub Sénégal and its innovative start-ups. Creative contests, including drawing competitions, cosplay events, and the geek trivia quiz Questions pour un geek, added to the excitement, along with 12 esports tournaments featuring a total cash prize of 2.5 million CFA francs.

Efest Africa 2024 marks the beginning of a promising journey. Given the overwhelming enthusiasm, the organizers are already planning to make this event an annual highlight for Senegalese and African youth. With this achievement, Senegal cements its leadership in gaming and digital innovation, inspiring a new generation of creators and competitors.
