Ghanaian retro gaming giants, Game Turf, have revealed plans to create a retro competition dubbed the “Master League” for the various gaming hubs in Ashaiman in August 16.

In an exclusive interview with EAN, Manager of the esports organisation, Desmond Akpaglo, stated that plans are still in the works, but he believes doing so will keep gamers active in the town.

“This is still in the pipeline, but the summary is that Game Turf wants to create an avenue called Master League for the various gaming hubs in Ashaiman. To keep gamers here busy, get them on their fingers all the time.”

The Master League is set to feature, in true Game Turf fashion, retro game competitions in Winning Eleven 9, PES 2015 and a rare inclusion for the esports organisation in FIFA 22.

Akpaglo revealed that after a season of each competition, Game Turf will hold a tournament of champions dubbed the “Ashaiman Champions Tourney.”

“At the end of every season, we’ll gather the top four players from each hub for a major Ashaiman Champions Tourney.” the Game Turf Manager stated.

Those looking forward to the Master League may have to wait until next month. However, it will only serve as a trial run by the esports organisation for the competition’s main kick-off next year.

“For the Master League, we are looking at next month, but since it’s going to be the trial season, the expectations are not very high, but most assuredly, next year onwards is going to be fire,” Akpaglo stated

Game Turf is Ghana’s home for retro gaming and has held a number of competitions featuring games from years past, and according to the esports organisation’s manager, Desmond Akpaglo, this is due to the demand for those types of games in the community.

“Gaming is supposed to bring people together; it promotes unity. Hence, whatever the people like is what we at Game Turf will want to use as a medium and the Ashaiman people seem to love retro gaming and with me myself being a retro gamer, it just made sense.”
