GAMING, GAMBLING AND… TWITCH
Over the years, Africans within the esports scene have been battling misconceptions about the industry being all about gambling. Gamers have had to go above and beyond to debunk assertions that esports is betting/gambling and vice versa. The notion is mostly held by the older generation and it seems its for good reason.
Issuing a statement on their official twitter account, Twitch has stated that Gambling content on their platform has been a big topic of discussion within their community. They went further to give details of steps taken to help make the community a safer one for the twitch community.
The platform indicated that they will be making a policy update on October 18th to prohibit streaming of gambling sites that include slots, roulette, or dice games that aren’t licensed either in the U.S. or other jurisdictions that provide sufficient consumer protection.
