On September 5, Ghanaian esports organisation, GiiKs Game City (GGC), officially launched the second edition of their eSoccer World Cup tournament, dubbed “Rep a Country” on the interactive social media platform, Twitter.

The “Rep a Country” tournament was born when GGC was inspired to give football fans and gamers a pre-World Cup experience back during the 2018 edition of the FIFA World Cup. This is the same for the event’s second edition, which will be held ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar from November 20 to December 18.

“We believe this tournament will serve as an entertaining and thrilling event. Through the GCC ‘Rep a Country eSoccer event,’ football fans, eSoccer players, and the general public will enjoy the euphoria which characterises the World Cup event before it kicks off.” A statement from GCC read.

The 2v2 tournament will see 16 teams—each representing a country playing in the 2022 FIFA World Cup—compete for a yet-to-be-announced prize pool.

Though it was not explicitly stated in the “Rep a Country” launch, the competition is expected to use EA Sports’ FIFA 23 as the game will have been released before the 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off and will have all the countries set to compete at the global football event.

No details on the competition’s date and time have been revealed, but it is expected to be held before the 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off on November 20.
