GiiKs Game City launch Rep a Country E-Soccer World Cup
GiiKs Game City (GGC), a Ghanaian esports organisation, officially launched the second edition of their “Rep a Country” E-soccer World Cup on Saturday, October 15 at the Madagastar Esports Arena within Accra’s West Hills Mall.
The event brought together some of the country’s most prominent esports figures, including but not limited to Igor Boumekpo (President of the Ghana Esports Federation (GeSF) and CEO Madagastar Esports Arena), Doreen Dabi-Diamond (General Secretary of the Esports Association, Ghana (EAG) and Team Manager of Eze Gaming Hub), Herbert Henry Krakue (CEO of PlayProvince), and Yuba Rahamani (GiiKs Game City (GGC) Founder and GeSF Standardization Director).
The 12 teams (Eze Gaming Hub, Canvic Records, Xplosion Esports, Black Squad, GL Legends, PlayProvince, Tema Esports, Team Falcon GH, Team Alpha, A Team, Dark Mode, and Prime Lords) that will compete in this year’s 2v2 tournament were also present.
At the launch, each team was drawn into two groups. The countries they will represent at the main event were also chosen.
GROUP A | COUNTRY |
Canvic Records | Brazil |
Eze Gaming Hub | Germany |
Xplosion Esports | Senegal |
Black Squad | Argentina |
GL Legends | Ghana |
PlayProvince | Netherland |
GROUP B | COUNTRY |
Tema Esports | Portugal |
Team Alpha | Belgium |
Team Falcon GH | Cameroon |
A Team | Spain |
Dark Mode | France |
Prime Lords | England |
The launch also revealed that this year’s event will use the most recent version of EA Sports FIFA (FIFA 23) and that all players in-game will be rated 95 overall in order to level the playing field. The event’s trophy and medals were also unveiled at the launch.
During the 2018 FIFA World Cup, GGC was inspired to give football fans and gamers a pre-World Cup experience, so the “Rep a Country” E-soccer World Cup was born. The same is true for the event’s second edition, which will take place prior to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Qatar from November 20 to December 18.
The GiiKs Game City (GGC) Rep a Country E-soccer World Cup begins on October 29 at the Madagastar Esports Arena in Accra’s West Hills Mall and runs until November 19.
