Abuja-based eMedia Interactive released CloserLook VR: Oldways on June 25, 2026 for Meta Quest, with SteamVR planned later. The game is a room-scale VR puzzle adventure set in modern West Africa, following Tessy, a microbiology student trapped inside a university building.

This is strategically interesting because African game development is too often discussed as if mobile is the only realistic lane. Mobile will remain dominant, but original African IP also needs experiments in premium, VR, PC and immersive formats. CloserLook VR is not just a product launch; it is a test of whether African studios can build comfort-first design, custom assets and culturally grounded narrative for emerging platforms.

The progress path is disciplined niche execution. eMedia should push demos, creator playthroughs, wishlist campaigns, comfort-setting documentation, headset-community outreach and platform partnerships. African VR will not scale by pretending the market is already large; it will scale by proving craft, audience fit and discoverability.
