Some people log into Fortnite to build, others to battle but one creator showed up to Lagos Games Week with something different, a game called Pitrush, published right inside the Fortnite ecosystem by Faruk, From  GamrAfrica@gamrhq

Fortnite isn’t just about battle royales anymore. It’s also a platform for indie game creators, and yes, that includes African developers like us. Cue proud drumroll and cultural dance break.

Introducing Farouk’s game – Pitrush

Pitrush is a game with a simple but engaging mechanic,  players race to collect limited items, all within the dynamic Fortnite creative environment. Normally, this would be a multiplayer experience, but at the time of testing, our creator is flying solo.

Still, the goal is clear, to gather feedback, and spark conversations around African-made games in global ecosystems.

The Magic of Fortnite Creative Tools

Here’s where it gets interesting. You don’t need a Hollywood budget to publish a game anymore. With Fortnite Creative and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), developers can build, test, and publish directly into the Fortnite platform.

“You don’t really need a big budget to make it happen,” the developer shared. “With the right tools, African creators can put our stories, our characters, and our imagination into the global gaming space”

This is a  call to action for African game devs. Fortnite is accessible, it’s powerful, and it has a global audience.

One of the key challenges is to  gather fellow devs for a proper test session. “Some of the creators we wanted to collaborate with aren’t even based in Nigeria,” the dev noted.

So  there was a dedicated day, an African Fortnite Creator Day where we all come together, test games, exchange feedback, and build a stronger African gaming community, it’ll really help push us forward.  We can  make it a thing.

We’re no longer just consumers of global games, we are now part of the creation. From titles like Pitrush to a growing number of African-built Fortnite experiences, the potential is massive.

All we need is more creators, more collaboration, and more spotlight. So if you’re a young African dev wondering where to start, maybe the answer is already in your Epic Games launcher.

Because sometimes, the battle isn’t about Victory Royale, it’s about representation.

Let’s build it.
