The first edition of the Sahel Esports Championship will take place in early November across countries in West Africa‘s Sahel region.

The competition would include qualifiers held in Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Chad, and Senegal. The Sahel Esports Championship appears to be planning to host exclusively francophone-speaking countries in its event, excluding anglophone-speaking countries.

The top male and female gamers from the Sahel region will battle for the title of champion in a grand final in Dakar, thanks to the support of the Institut Français. Gamers interested in competing in the qualifiers can find the competition in the places and countries listed below:

The qualifiers will be held on November 5th in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso’s capital. The qualifiers will also be held in Niger’s capital, Niamey, on November 5th. Senegal will also host the qualifiers on November 5th in Dakar. N’Djamena, Chad, will also host qualifiers for interested players to put their skills to the test.

Mali will host the qualifications in Bamakoon on November 12th, while the other countries will host them on November 5th. The reason for the date change for the Mali qualifying has not yet been revealed.

After all qualifiers in the other countries are ended, the competition will be decided in Dakar, Senegal, on November 23rd. The competition organisers will pay for travel from Sahelian countries to the Grand Final in Dakar.

Sahel Esports Champions takes place as part of Novembre Numérique, the Institut Français’ global celebration of digital cultures, and with the help of the Culture Mobility Fund in the Sahel. The Senegalese Association of Gamers (SENGAMES), Univers des Champions (UDC), MOG Media Design, Futurcom Planet, and ENTER AFRICA are also supporting the competition.
