Kenya Team Manager calls for support ahead of participation in the 2022 Global Esports Games
Ahead of the 2022 Global Esports Games (GEG), which is set to take place from December 15–17 in İstanbul, Turkey, the Team Manager for the Kenya contingent, Ronny Lusigi, has called for support from the Kenyan government and corporate bodies to help the team participate in the event.
In an interview with Nation.Africa, Ronny stated, “Our team is capable. We have the best gamers in the nation, and they are training hard every day. However, we are short on resources. I urge the government and well-wishers to come on board and support us.”
Kenya is one of eight (8) African countries, set to represent the continent in either DOTA 2, eFootball 2023, PUBG Mobile, or Street Fighter V at the Games, along with Djibouti, Ghana, Libya, Nigeria, Namibia, Somalia, and Tunisia. The East African team of eight will compete in three games: eFootball 2023, Street Fighter V, and DOTA 2.
Shirley Adema of Kenyatta University will lead the Kenyan DOTA 2 Women team, which will face Argentina, New Zealand, Great Britain, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and hosts Turkey. Yvonne Nkatha and Elinah Kemunto of Kenyatta University will also be on the team, as will Barbara Maush of Strathmore University, Maria Kiuru of Horizon Esports, and Magdalene Mumbi of Alpha Clan.
Kenya will be represented in eFootball 2023 by current national champion Evander “Viera” Maina, who will compete for the top spot against 54 other nations. Marion Muthoni will represent the East African nation in Street Fighter V against 41 other countries.
Kenya will make their debut in the second edition of the Global Esports Games (GEG), which is the flagship competitive esports event held each December by athletes from the Global Esports Federation (GEF) Member Federations.
