Accra reps for the UPG FIFA 22 tournament have been identified
The Greater Accra Regional Qualifiers for the FIFA 22 Ultimate Pro Gaming (UPG) Tournament wrapped up over the weekend as four of the region’s best teams competed for Greater Accra’s two available slots for the competition’s Grand Finals to be held in December.
The Greater Accra Qualifiers, which were held at the Game It Up! Hub inside the Marina Mall in Accra was the first step in the organiser’s Ultimate Pro Gaming (UPG) Esports Agency journey to find the country’s best FIFA 22 team.
Tema Esports, Team Falcons GH, Cougars Esports, and Ghanaian esports new boys Xpolsion Esports were the teams who battled it out for the region’s slots and a chance to claim the competition’s GH₵10,000 ($1000) first place prize.
New boys Xplosion Esports, who were making their first major appearance in a competition, would come out on top during the qualifiers, claiming their slot in the Grand Finals on the first day of the competition after dominating their opposition.
However, Xplosion Esports’ victory was not assured as Tema Esports and Team Falcon GH still stood a chance to come out as the region’s top qualifier, and on the second day, it would be Team Falcon GH which would challenge the new boys’ claim as the region’s best, taking the qualifiers to the final game with Xplosion Esports coming out on top with Team Falcon GH having to stick to second place.
With that Accra’s reps for the Grand Finals of the FIFA 22 Ultimate Pro Gaming (UPG) Tournament will be Xplosion Esports team of Flow Burner Frass, Stephen Otoo and Genie as well as Team Falcon GH’s Wicked and Jovial Kalu, GamerGirlNica, and Paada.
Next on the FIFA 22 UPG Tournament calendar are the Western Regional Qualifiers, which are set to take place at the Game It Up! Hub inside the Takoradi Mall from September 23–24. These qualifiers will be interesting to watch as Ghanaian esports juggernauts PlayProvince and Ruutz Esports are set to compete for the region’s two available slots.
The FIFA 22 UPG Tournament is organised by the Ultimate Pro Gaming (UPG) Esports Agency, which was founded back in 2020 by Ghanaian entrepreneur Anthony Botchway to organise competitive esports tournaments across Africa as the organisation looks to develop and promote the emerging sport to compete among the top pro gaming industries in the world.
