Akintoye Arogunmati to rep Nigeria at 2022 CEC
After an intense qualification period, Nigeria has found their rep for the 2022 Commonwealth Esports Championship (CEC) in the person of Akintoye Arogunmati.
Akintoye will be the country’s male representative for the eFootball after emerging victorious in an intense Grand Final which saw him face off against Trust Ehiguese.
The Grand Final was decided in a Best of 3 format, with Akintoye suffering an early defeat in game one but coming back stronger in games two and three to secure the title and the slot to represent Nigeria at the maiden edition of the CEC.
Nigeria’s search for a female representative continues as Team Manager of the Lagos Esports Forum (LESF), Ife Akintaju, confirmed that the search for a female rep will be sorted over the next few days.
The LESF revealed back in May they would be sending two gamers to take on the rest of the world at the 2022 CEC revealing that the nation would only be competing in the open and female categories of eFootball.
Following the qualifiers, the team will turn their attention to preparing for the upcoming championship to be held from August 6-7 at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham, England.
