The Goethe-Institut’s #EveryGamerCounts project has been shortlisted for a 2022 Women in Games (WIG) award in the diversity initiative category.

This was revealed by the Goethe-Institut Joburg Twitter account, stating that the project is a joint effort between the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, the Goethe-Institut South Africa, and the Goethe-Institut Romania.

The #EveryGamerCounts project is currently ongoing, having kicked off on August 13 at the Uncle Tom’s Community Centre, Soweto. The event brought in experts from all over the world to discuss current issues in esports and the gaming community as the project seeks to challenge existing stereotypes and raise awareness of obstacles faced by women, minorities, and people with disabilities in the industry.

The Women in Games Awards celebrates the achievements of women and organisations working in games and esports, from all over the world. This year’s event is set to kick off on September 17 as part of the Women in Games Festival which is set to run from September 6-17.
