African gaming platform, Gamr, last month organised what could only be described as one of the biggest esports events the continent has ever seen as gamers of the best gamers from 10 African countries competed for a prize pool of $15,000.

The competition dubbed “GamrX” had an incredible maiden edition as 1,000 gamers competed with 4,000 guests attending and over 2 million viewers online, the event cannot be described as anything but a big success.

But how were they able to pull it off, well Gamr CEO, Eniola Edun, in an exclusive interview on the Gamers Change Lives Podcast gives 3 important pieces of advice to anyone interested in creating their own esports tournament.

“I think the first one will be your community, you cannot do anything outside of your community so before you go out there or come out to say I want [to] do this you need to have done [a] significant amount of work in your community.”

“The second thing is in setting your prize pool, it has to be something that it’s either your sponsor is paying or you have that money.”

“And I think lastly you have to understand that in the esports business it is not particularly in terms of revenue, it’s something that has built over time. So when you are doing it you have to ensure that you want to do it because you believe in it.”
