Ghana 2022 CEC Qualifiers kick off today
Ghana’s 2022 Commonwealth Esports Championship (CEC) Qualifiers have kicked off today May 21 at the Esports Academy in Haatso, Accra.
The Ghana Qualifiers which is organised by the Esports Association, Ghana (EAG) has brought together some of the nation’s best eFootball and Rocket League gamers to battle for a spot in Ghana’s team to compete at the maiden edition of the CEC.
In eFootball, more than 50 gamers began the journey for the two available spots (one male and one female) on the team with only 20 making it to the main event.
The 12 male gamers and 8 female gamers competing in eFootball have been divided into 2 groups ready to do battle. The Top 2 of each group will then move into the knockout phase of the competition until finally the ultimate champion (both male and female) is found.
In Rocket League, the more than 20 participants will be put into a pool where they will face each other in a group of training matches with the Top 3 gamers for both males and females making up the men’s and women’s national teams.
“We have a small community for Rocket League so it’s okay because I know we’ve done tournaments in these titles so we can do it even if we have to call players put them together and train them instead of doing qualifiers there is always a way around.” President of the EAG, Kwesi Hayford, said in an exclusive interview back in April.
The 2022 Commonwealth Esports Championship (CEC) is set to take place at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham, England from August 6-7 and will be held independently at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
