Gran Turismo 7 quietly pulled from sale in Russia
Gran Turismo 7 officially launched globally today 4th March 2022. However, the much-anticipated racing game has been silently pulled from the Russian PlayStation Store.
According to reports, the decision by Sony to make the game available in the Eastern European country was made just last night.
Though Sony has yet to make an official statement on the game’s absence on their Russian PlayStation store, many looking to purchase the racing game in Russia are currently being met with the current message on the game’s page “Release date pending confirmation.”
The move seems to come following calls from the Ukrainian deputy prime minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, for the games industry to stop supporting Russian markets as a way to put pressure on the Russian government to end their invasion of Ukraine.
It should be noted that Sony’s film distribution arm previously announced it would pause cinema releases in Russia, including the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off Morbius, due on 24th March.
Yesterday 3rd March 2022, Cyberpunk and The Witcher developer CD Projekt said it would block all purchases made from Russia and its ally Belarus via its PC games store GOG.com – making it the first store owner to do so.
