American rapper Kendrick Lamar is currently in Ghana to shoot a documentary based on his new album, ‘Mr Morale And The Big Steppers’ which was released May 13.

The 34-year-old Compton native seems to be having a good time in the West African nation as videos show the Grammy award-winning rapper enjoying his time with the locals, getting to know them and their culture.

These videos have gone viral with the most popular being the rap superstar playing EA Sports’ FIFA at a local game centre with young children.

This video garnered some interest from the gaming fraternity with Melanin Gamers Founder, Annabel Ashalley-Anthony, sharing her thoughts on social media.

“Saw this post thanks to OkayAfrica on Instagram and it’s amazing! Grammy Award-winning American artist Kendrick Lamar playing FIFA in one of the many venues popping up all over Ghana!”

Melanin Gamers back in 2021 was in the country to organise their first-ever International real-life event which saw them hold panel talks at local schools and universities and host gaming tournaments.

“There is so much talent and potential in Ghana when it comes to the gaming industry.” Annabel said, “We were honoured to mentor numerous individuals including Monica Mensah Sefakor to become the first-ever Women in Games Ambassador in Ghana!”

Kendrick arrived in Ghana last week before the ‘Mr Morale And The Big Steppers’ album release and has been spotted at various locations across Accra.
