On July 15, Egypt held what many would consider its biggest offline esports tournament with the Garena Free Fire: Battle of Egypt, which ran till September.

The Grand Finals of the event were held at the Hassan Mostafa Sports Complex in the 6th of October City and saw more than 3,000 fans watch the top 50 finalists from the initial 16,700 gamers compete for the grand prize of E£500,000 ($26,000).

At the end of the day, Samy Reda Ali Mohamed from Mansoura, Youssef Farag from Giza, Mohamed Ashraf Salah from Cairo, Belal Elsayed Mohamed from Alexandria, Mohamed Omar Kelany from Giza, and Salma Gamal Ali al-Auoti from Damietta came out as winners.

The Grand Final was attended by Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy and the Head of Garena Middle East and Africa, Hans Saleh, with Salah saying after the event that “Free Fire: The Battle of Egypt enables our players and communities in Egypt to realise their potential and achieve greater heights in the esports industry.”

“We will continue to focus on strengthening the esports community in Egypt and developing a pipeline of Egyptian esports athletes who will be able to represent Egypt with pride at international championships.”

The Garena Free Fire: Battle of Egypt was a huge success from start to finish as the 16,700 gamers were watched by over 70,000 viewers on YouTube Live.
