The Originals & The Commission Secure their Place in the Africa Esports Ranking Finals

Yesterday, May 3, marked the end of the Winners’ Semi-Finals for the Africa Esports Ranking (AER) Call of Duty: Mobile (CODM) tournament. This highly anticipated online event, which began on April 25, saw sub-Saharan Africa’s top T2/T3 teams compete fiercely for the coveted AER championship title.

The Winners’ Semi-Final featured an impressive Greek Gnomes squad. Starting in Group B alongside Divinity Gaming, Velentaz, and Storm Wolves, the Greek Gnomes dominated their opponents, emerging from the group undefeated. The team continued their impressive run, defeating Azreal Gaming in the Quarter-Finals to secure a spot in the Semi-Finals. Their opponents in the Semi-Finals were The Originals, who also had a flawless run in Group D, defeating The Commission, Yume United, and Old Gods. In the Quarter-Finals, The Originals overcame Entropy to secure their place in the Semi-Finals. However, in a closely contested match, it was The Originals who emerged victorious, beating the Greek Gnomes 2-1 in the Winners’ Semi-Final and securing their spot in the Winners’ Final.

The other Semi-Final clash between Ghana’s Ace Gamers and Nigeria’s The Commission was eagerly anticipated, as the two teams had faced each other in several competitions, including the Pokka Black Ops Grand Finals. Ace Gamers started the tournament on a high note, remaining unbeaten in Group C, which featured Azreal Gaming, Soul Society, and Scythe Esports. They then defeated Divinity Gaming in the Quarter-Finals to book a place in the Semi-Finals against The Commission. While The Commission lost to The Originals in the Group Stage, they managed to reach the Quarter-Finals, where they overcame Defiance 2-0 to face Ace Gamers in the Semis. Despite many expecting Ace Gamers to advance to the Winners’ Final, The Commission emerged victorious, just like their encounter in the Pokka Black Ops Grand Finals, securing their place in the Africa Esports Ranking Winners Finals.

Following their triumph over Ace Gamers, The Commission earned a place in the Winners’ Finals, where they would face off against The Originals. Meanwhile, Ace Gamers dropped to the Losers’ Round 2, where they defeated Azreal Gaming 2-0 to advance to the Losers’ Round 3. In the next round, they had the possibility of a rematch against Divinity Gaming or could face the Greek Gnomes, who was the other team to suffer defeat in the Winners’ Semi-Finals.
