The prologue of Chosen 1’s plans for Ghana
CEO of esports consulting agency Gold Standard Gaming (GSG), Sebastian “Chosen 1” Burton, in an exclusive interview with EAN, has revealed that we are currently on page three of the prologue of his plans for Ghana.
Burton who is currently in the West African nation to experience the country’s culture and connect with his African roots has already organised a competition – the Chosen Championship Mortal Kombat (MK) Invitational – and revealed plans to set up a Digital Diaspora in August 2023.
“I can’t reveal all my plans,” Burton said “[However] If this was a book on Ghana we have just gotten to the third page of the prologue. It’s on!”
Though not willing to go into details about his future plans for the nation, the Gold Standard Gaming CEO, however, spoke about how his plans developed.
“Working with my good friend Kwesi Hayford [President of the Esports Association, Ghana] on LinkedIn for the past few years, I knew how big the esports scene was here.”
“So I said well if I am going to Ghana, I gotta call Kwesi and so once I started talking to Kwesi we decided we were going to start doing some big things for esports in Ghana.”
One of those “big things” was the MK Invitational Chosen Championship which was held on Saturday, June 4 at the Otium Game Hub in East Legon, Accra. The competition brought together 16 of the nation’s best MK gamers to battle for a slice of the GH₵2,000 ($255) prize pool.
“So at first what I wanted to do was I was just going to bring a certain amount of money and anybody who could beat me I was just going to give him a [GH₵]100 because I am that confident, I’m like if you can beat me you deserve a 100 cedis.”
“But Kwesi thought more strategically and thought what a way to make it about the players and some of the top players and give them a chance to come and play at the highest level and I thought that represents gaming more than me trying to say I am the best.”
The other thing being worked on by Burton is the Digital Diaspora which is set to be held in August 2023 at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.
The event according to Burton is slated to change the world as it connects Africans and African-Americans in a way we haven’t seen in years.
“[Digital Diaspora] is something that I think is slated to change the world. I don’t take full credit for it, I have a great team including Marcus Howard, Kat Shields-Moon, Taylor Gordon,[and] Akia West, and I just gotta name these people because they’ve helped me bring this to life.”
“It is going to be a spectacular event, it’s about connecting Africans and African-Americans in a way that we haven’t seen in decades and centuries.”
