UK-based esports organisation Tundra Esports has announced Dutch footballer Virgil van Dijk as an Ambassador and Shareholder.

Van Dijk will help promote the organisation in addition to providing support for its roster of esports players.

The Liverpool FC defender becomes the second ambassador of Tundra, joining British grime MC P Money who has collaborated with the organisation to create a music video unveiling van Dijk.

According to a release Van Dijk will look to “integrate himself further into the gaming community” in addition to supporting and developing Tundra’s business goals.

Van Dijk becomes the latest footballer to enter the gaming and esports industries. He joins the likes of Everton player Dele Alli who became a global ambassador of EXCEL ESPORTS in November 2020. Additionally, Harry Maguire and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are ambassadors of British esports organisation SMPR.

Tundra Esports currently fields rosters in Fortnite, FIFA, and Dota 2 in addition to its roster of six content creators. Most recently, the organisation joined forces with gaming café chain SideQuest in a deal that enables it to use all SideQuest facilities as training boot camps.

Van Dijk, the new ambassador and shareholder of Tundra Esports, spoke on his role: “I am extremely excited to be joining Tundra Esports. Tundra Esports is one of the fastest growing esports organisations in the world and they are moving in a very exciting direction.

“It was great to be able to collaborate with P Money and the idea behind OUTPLAYED further emphasised why I wanted to be involved to help grow the team. They have built up a tremendous reputation when it comes to player well-being within a winning culture which is something that really resonates with me. I’m excited for the future.”
