Amazon Orders ‘God of War’ live-action series on Prime Video

The new show will feature Kratos leaving his gory past in ancient Greece and moving to Midgard, aka Earth.

If you’re a fan of the God of War franchise, you might be excited to hear that Amazon is set to release a live-action series based on the popular video game.

The first God of War video games will not be the basis for the television series since a wrathful God of War might not make for compelling television. The 2018 game, in which Kratos travelled to the Norse Realms, established a new family, and took care of his kid following the death of his wife, will serve as the basis for the new series.

The new show will feature Kratos—the main character from the game—leaving his gory past in ancient Greece and moving to Midgard, aka Earth.

The show is being produced by Sony Pictures Television and will likely be a huge hit for Amazon Prime Video. The record-breaking game sold a whopping 5.1 million copies in the first week alone.

Rafe Judkins, executive producer of The Wheel of Time, and Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, co-creators of The Expanse, received the order for a God of War television series. While Judkins takes over as showrunner/executive producer, the former two will write and executive produce.

And while there’s no official word yet on when we can expect this new series to hit our screens, fans have already started voicing their support for Christopher Judge (who played Teal’c on Stargate SG-1) being cast as Kratos in the TV show. Sunny Suljic, who plays Atreus, and Danielle Bisutti, who plays Freya, have both indicated interest in joining the cast.
