The popular content creator and streamer, Ludwig Ahgren, has announced a Super Smash Bros invitational, featuring prominent names across both Melee and Ultimate scenes.

The Ludwig Smash Invitational, set to take place October 21-23 in Las Vegas, Nevada, will feature two separate tournaments for both Super Smash Bros titles. The event will be streamed on Ludwig’s Youtube channel.

Alongside official invites to the event, the invitational will feature a last-chance qualifier on the same weekend. In total, 24 players for each 32-player bracket have been invited to the Invitational.

Notable names include Angel ‘Onin’ Mireles (Ultimate), T1’s Leonardo ‘MkLeo’ Lopez Perez (Ultimate), Team Liquid’s Juan ‘Hungrybox’ Debiedma (Melee) and Cody ‘iBDW’ Schwab (Melee), among many others.

The Ludwig Smash Invitational has attracted many Smash players and their respective organisations. Representatives from Spacestation Gaming, TSM, FlyQuest, Red Bull and Cloud9 are among the 48 invited contestants.

Each tournament will have a $30,000 prize pool. Moreover, the Last Chance Qualifier has been capped at 64 players per title. The top eight of each qualifier will enter the invitational.

The last 12 months for Super Smash Bros’ esports ecosystem have been incredibly noteworthy.

Nintendo has announced a North American Smash esports circuit with esports organisation Panda Global and was absent from this year’s EVO after announcing that Smash would not be taking part in the FGC event. In 2021, EVO was bought by multinational conglomerate Sony.

Back in January, Ludwig Ahgren held an online Super Smash Bros Melee tournament which was open to all entrants from North America. The tournament was eventually won by Zain, who has also been invited to the invitational.

Earlier this year,  Ludwig was involved in another esports scene, the newly created UNO! Mobile Wildcard Series. He was announced as the event’s host for its All Star series which featured the likes of Jack ‘CouRage’ Dunlop, Rachell ‘Valkyrae’ Hofstetter and Sykkuno.
