Esports Kenya Federation (EKF) Founder and CEO, Joseph Bavon, has revealed in an exclusive interview with Quartz that the country plans to compete in all three games set to be at the maiden edition of the Commonwealth Esports Championships (CEC).

The titles set to be featured at the championships are Dota 2 – which the nation has already secured direct qualification for – the eFootball series and Rocket League both of which Kenya will have to battle in regional qualifiers against African countries including Malawi and Mauritius for a place at the 2022 CEC.

“I’m very hopeful and confident in the ability of our top Kenyan players,” Bavon said while highlighting the federation’s desire to offer Kenyan esports players world-class training facilities and resources as well as coaches.

Bavon revealed in an exclusive interview with EAN back in February his confidence in not only securing a spot at the 2022 CEC but that Kenya will claim victory in all events they compete in.

“I have the best players in any game out there. The funny thing about esports in Kenya is these guys play anything and everything. I usually say that if you want to launch a game, do it in Kenya you won’t lack someone taking an interest.”

The 2022 Commonwealth Esports Championships (CEC) are set to be held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) from August 6-7 and will be held independently at the 2022 Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham, England.
